I was very busy Monday. Each of the girls at a new camp, Tony upset about dropoff taking so long (because camp #2 wouldn't let us in early), and interview, people out at work, etc.
When I got a welcome back email from school, I read it quickly. I saw the new logo and thought, "this can't be right!" with a little bit of "I can't right now." It felt wrong, though I couldn't place the image.
It helps that I'm not on social media, else I wouldn't have been remotely productive.
Later when the logo was paused, I thought, "good!" Then through talking with a neighbor, she told me about the resemblance to the Nazi Eagle. How did that get through the vetting process?! I don't believe it was innocent. I don't believe it was modeled after the Army Eagle (and why would that be appropriate either?)
Note that this school rebranded recently-ish. Many of my neighbors were East Side Tigers, some as young as 13, so the rebranding happened sometime between 2014 and 2018! I am angry, hurt, and very concerned, as I think it's a dog whistle to embolden the Nazis in our community. Unfortunately, these incidents regularly come up.
And to give you perspective, there are a lot of Jews in this area. Three synagogues are within two miles of the school, one of which is right across the street (neighborhood street, not major road).
