The controversy around Colin Kaepernick sitting through the national anthem last weekend has been amazing to watch in our current political landscape. It's very apparent to me, there's definitely the difference between how Blacks have responded vs how Whites have responded, but I learned something new. I've known "The Star Spangled Banner" has three verses and celebrated the victory of Americans in the War of 1812, but I did not know Francis Scott Key explicitly enjoyed seeing the death of former slaves in that battle. Now, I'm not one to judge, obviously the American landscape was very different 200 years ago, but I did enjoy this article on the matter.
